DETROIT LAKES — Christin Lea Bellanger, 32 of Detroit Lakes has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony fifth-degree controlled substance crime.

According to court records, on June 16, 2021, she was pulled over in Detroit Lakes by an officer who saw her and knew she had an active warrant. In her backpack, officers found tin foil, small Ziplock baggies, a hypodermic needle, and a marijuana grinder.

There was also a warrant out for the passenger in the car, and his backpack was found to contain a smoking pipe, syringe, cotton filters for injecting narcotics, and a blue baggy with over 5 grams of methamphetamine.

On June 28 Bellanger was sentenced to a year and day in prison at Shakopee, stayed five years. She was ordered to serve 133 days in jail, with credit for 133 days served, and was fined $575 dollars.

She was ordered to get a chemical dependency evaluation and follow the recommendations, including aftercare, and was placed on supervised probation for five years.

On July 13, District Judge Gretchen Thilmony revoked and annulled the stay of execution and issued a warrant for her arrest, based on a July 6 probation violation report. The nationwide warrant authorizes Bellanger to be arrested day or night and held for court.

She was also sentenced for felony financial transaction card fraud.

According to court records, on July 7, 2021, a woman reported her wallet had been stolen and her credit card used at two Detroit Lakes retailers for a combined $31.22. Bellanger bought cigarettes and gas using the stolen card. She was previously convicted of felony financial transaction card fraud in 2020.

On June 28, was sentenced on the fraud charge to serve 122 days in jail, with credit for 122 days served. She was fined $500, plus $650 in court fees and $734 in restitution.
